Hot! The making of a nursery

Ever since the first day we found out we were having a baby, we have been foraging for bits and pieces for bub and her nursery. Shopping for baby stuff can be expensive, particularly for items that you might only use for a few months and then they have out grown them. So in keeping with my saying “I never pay full price for anything”, Clint and I have welcomed the use of ebay to put together our nursery.

We’re nowhere near having it finished as yet, although I would love nothing more than to pull everything out, make beds and set things up. But we are waiting till closer to the birth to do that.  In the meantime we would like to share with you where we are at with it and what plans we have. Here’s the nursery as it stands today:

Clint and I both agree that we want a room and furniture that will grow with our child. We have opted not to paint the room and change the colour, mostly because we only painted it just over 12 months ago but also because we want to use decoration to add the colour. The cot we bought on ebay (for $51!) will transition into a toddler bed so it will be at least a few more years before we have to invest in another bed. For the change table we bought (yes paid full price!) drawers from Ikea. This will grown with our child right until they leave home (not that we’re pushing for that already mind you!). Isn’t the cot and drawer colours a good colour match? I was so pleased with that! I have plans to make some home-made artwork, similar to what I did for Mackenzee’s room with the butterfly shadow boxes. When we were visiting the display homes recently, I saw an idea of putting pages from children’s books into frames. What a great idea!

We’ve also been doing some other smart shopping on ebay and at baby markets and have a whole kit of bits and pieces. This is just a sample (we also have two plastic tubs of linen, clothes and other bits that I have bought on sale from stores like Target). The best buy so far has been the brand new Steelcraft pram and capsule for the car that retails at about $700. We bought it for $250 on ebay – still with it’s tags on it!

We will keep you posted on our nursery (and baby spending habits!) and look forward to sharing with you the final result.

Have fun!
