Pregnancy Update 37 Weeks
Welcome to week 37 of our pregnancy. There are days when I’m starting to feel exhausted from the extra weight that I am carrying around but other days when I still have a lot of energy. I’ve been very diligent in paying attention to just how much I put on but the last few weeks have really taken an up tick and I seem to be gaining more. So far I have put on 12kg so I would be happy to just stop at that right now. My family and friends say I am all tummy and boobs and the rest of my body looks normal. I am still wearing the same size undies and my yoga pants all still fit me the same so I don’t seem to have put on much around the bum and thighs which is good…might look a little softer though!
The heat we are experiencing on the Gold Coast this week is certainly not helping with my feet and finger swelling which continues to plague me. I try to elevate my feet as much as I can and I find soaking my feet in cool water very relieving. I feel like my arches have fallen as when I get up in the morning, my feet already ache as if I have been on them all day.
My tummy is certainly out there now and I keep forgetting just how big I am so bounce off shop counters and even Clint when I go in for a cuddle. Everything has to be done side on – dishes, working on my computer, eating at the dinner table.
Last week I mentioned that I was due to have another round of ultrasounds to check on the abnormal reading regarding bub’s tummy from the last scan. Well the good news is that it must have been just excessively big (and full of goodness!) on the day as it was off the charts at the last scan. But this time around it is still a tad bigger than normal but well within range. So phew, looks like everything is okay.
How big is the baby: With about three weeks to go, bub could weigh the average weight of 3.1kg (6 lbs 13 oz) and measure around 48.5 cm long (19 inches) or be smaller or larger. Apparently she is the size of a winter melon. The guesstimate of her weight from the ultrasound last week pegs her to be pretty much on track now. I’ve been waiting to get to the 37 week stage as babies born from now are regarded as being born on time or full term.
Sickness: Swelling is the only thing I can complain about…not that I am really complaining, just dealing with it any way I can. I feel like I need to take a load off more these days and sit down, even elevate my feet when I can.
Movement: Still lot’s of movement going on in there. From the ultrasound pics, she looks to be very squished up in there so not sure how she could possibly find the room to move as much as she does.
Sleep: I’m still waking up between 2am and 3am. I’ve been reading this book Save Our Sleep which came highly recommended by a few peeps who swear by it. It’s a guide to help create happy, sleeping babies. What’s funny is that the routine calls for a 2.30am feed so considering I am waking up around that time already means I will be well-trained for it!
Cravings: No cravings but my sweet tooth has come back with avengeance. I’ve always enjoyed the occasional slice of cake, particularly chocolate. I’m not so keen on chocolate at the moment but anything that has custard in it or cheese cake goes down very well (and could be why I’ve had that up tick in weight gain lately!!). With the heat these last few days, I’ve been drinking lot’s more water and juice as well…honestly feel like I can’t get enough.
What did you buy this week: I was in Big W and saw some cute cotton shorts and t-shirts so grabbed a couple of them. The shorts were $3 a pair and the shirts not much more than that so bargain.
Highlight of the Week: Hearing that everything is fine with bub’s tummy. It was certainly a relief to know she is going to be alright.
What we’re looking forward to: D-day! With less than 3 weeks to go until the estimate due date, I really will be glad to just get it over and done with now. The bathroom could possibly be finished next week as Clint has been working really hard to get that over the line. I suggested to my parents that as soon as it’s done, they might like to venture up so they are here in time for the birth. Mackenzee is very excited that her sister will be here soon. We were speaking with Mackenzee’s mum yesterday and even though Mackenzee said she wants to “rock up” on a Saturday and be surprised that her new little sister is here, we all agree it will be good for her to see the baby as soon as she is born. So as soon as labour starts, we’ll call and let them know so they can also come up to the hospital.
We had a night out last night. I guess it was a big hoorah before the baby arrives. We went for dinner with Clint’s sister Kim to a really yummy Italian restaurant at Broadbeach and then decided to had over to Jupiter’s Casino for a dance. Can you believe at 37 weeks pregnant I managed to have a bop and get to bed at 2am! Here’s some happy snaps from the night:
Yes, that’s me wishing I could have a sip of wine. Oh well, maybe after the baby is born and I stop breast feeding I can finally enjoy a glass of red again!
Let’s play a guessing game. With the official due date pegged as 26th October, we’re taking your guesses as to what date you think bub will arrive. So leave a comment with your guess. The winner (or closest guess) will receive hero status
Have fun!
