Pregnancy Update 31 Weeks
Sorry for the delayed update this week peeps. I have been down for the count with a really bad cold…more on that later.
Hey, I was reading this interesting yet very humorous article this week at Pregnant Chicken called Happily After Giving Birth – 10 Things They Don’t Tell You. OMG…I hope none of it’s true! If I thought I was scared to let this little one out of my tummy now, if I had of read that before I was pregnant, I don’t think it would have even been an option! The thought of, and I quote the article here, a crotch that is a swollen and stitched up mighty mess that even Stephen King couldn’t dream up…now that IS a really scary thought!
They say you do a lot of thinking when you are pregnant (goodness knows there is nothing else to do when you have insomnia at 2am in the morning!). This week I have been thinking about how amazing this whole pregnancy thing is and the fact that one day she is going to be an adult and having babies herself. It’s hard to get your head around.
I have to apologise if my pic this week scares anyone. Just remember I am sick with a cold
How big is the baby: This week bub is about 1.7kg (1,700 grams or 3 lbs 12 oz) and measures about 43 cm from head to toe (just under 17 inches). So she is about the size of a pineapple (which by the way you apparently shouldn’t eat in large quantities during pregnancy as it brings on labour!).
Sickness: You know that sinus I mentioned I had last week? Well in fact it turned into a nose cold that lasted a week and just when I thought it was gone, it came back as a chest infection. I’ve had night fevers and almost no voice for 3 days now. I can’t believe how sick I have been this last week and a half when I have been the picture of health for over 3 years now. I’ve sat in a room where everyone is coughing and spluttering and yet I came out without even a tickle in the throat. So why on earth do I now get a damn cold…especially when what I can take for it is limited. Well the good news is that I am on antibiotics now and hopefully it will run it’s course and I will be back to good health very soon.
Movement: Lot’s of movement. In fact, I think I have felt her hiccupping a few times. It’s like a pulse that lasts for a few minutes. I have started taking video of any movement she makes so we can show her when she is older.
Sleep: Still have the dreaded insomnia and not getting much sleep, which is probably why I have been a bit run down and susceptible to that dreaded cold lurgie!
Cravings: No cravings but have been enjoying sliced banana with vanilla custard.
What did you buy this week: A few Pumpkin Patch dresses off ebay. Well my excuse is that we didn’t have anything nice for her to wear in the first 3 months of her life aside from onsies.
Highlight of the Week: Buying my first maternity bra. I’ve never been known for having big boobs, have actually considered myself the poached egg kinda girl and longed for a perky set. So my eyes have suddenly lit up with the fact that I have gone from a 12B to a 14DD during my pregnancy. I have to say, there are not a lot of pretty maternity bras out there…they are very much the grandma looking type…you know the big over the shoulder boulder holders. I also bought some lounge wear for the hospital. Basically just some yoga pants that will be comfy to wear. It has been really bothering that my hospital bag wasn’t finalised and now that I have them, I am good to go!
What we’re looking forward to: Another ultrasound in 2 weeks time. It’s basically to see if my placenta is moving up or if it is still low-lying and therefore determine if I will be having a caesarean or natural birth. I’ve been in two minds about which way to go to be honest…both have their pros and cons. I guess what I am adamant that I don’t want is to go through both. I don’t want to go through the start of trying a natural labour only to be told they have to do an emergency cesarean on me.
Have fun!
