Pregnancy Update 29 Weeks
The pregnancy is progressing very nicely this week with nothing major to report. No tears, cravings, sickness…a winner of a week! I’ve had a lot more energy lately, even suggested a walk with Roxy to Clint today so we could take a look at the back section of our garden now that the enormous tree has been removed. Unfortunately the stairs going up the 4 levels from the ground to the house level have broken and rotted away. Even more unfortunate for Clint is that he had to somehow get Roxy and a 7+ month pregnant woman up those levels. I think he had more problems with Roxy actually!
Feels like it is baby season at the moment with so many of my friends sharing the news that they are having babies between now and March next year. Actually one of them gave birth to a beautiful little girl just a week or so ago. It’s a shame only one of them lives near me otherwise we could have had a doozy of a mother’s group on our hands!
Having sorted out bub’s room last Sunday, I have also started packing my hospital bag. I just want to be super ready and sure everything is right to go…just incase there are any surprises! Mum and dad (more so mum) are freaking a little about being here on time seeming they have a 9 or so hour drive from their place to ours. If I end up having to have a caesarean then we will at least have a date to work off (and I can go and get my hair done before hand…lol!). However, babies come when they come so even though we might have a booking for delivery, it doesn’t mean bub is going to want to come that day…she may actually arrive much earlier.
To be honest, the thought of going into labour is freaking me out a lot. For one, as much as I have a “do anything I put my mind to” mentality, I really don’t have a very high pain threshold. I just keep reminding myself that I am not the first woman in the world to do it and that women used to give birth in a field, chuck the kid in a swag on their back and keep picking the corn. So if they can do it, surely I can to.
How big is the baby: This week bub is about 1,350 grams (3 lbs) and measures about 40 cm in length from head to toe (15.75 inches), about the size of an acorn squash (not that I have ever seen one mind you!). I was about 49cm when I was born (and about 8 lbs), and Clint thinks he was about the same, so we’re expecting bub to be about that or bigger.
Sickness: Fighting fit, nothing to report except sore feet and ankles when I have been on them all day. Having a little heartburn every now and then but I could possibly put that down to the garlic I have been eating in our meals or believe the old wive’s tales about the baby having a lot of hair. I came out with a full head of think hair that mum used to put a ribbon in so between Clint’s thick curly locks and my thick mop, I wouldn’t be surprised if bub comes out with the same.
Movement: Bub is continuing with her gymnastics training and, although she might be only 40cm long, sometimes it feels like she is stretching out like a star as I feel pushing all over! Some days she is more active than others.
Sleep: It gets better and then it gets worse. Some nights I can’t sleep and am walking around like a zombie still at 2am. Other nights I am asleep by 8pm but up at 3am.
Cravings: Cravings seem to have gone as I am not desperate for anything in particular. Still enjoying strawberries…especially for a nibble when I wake up at 3am!
What did you buy this week: My newly pregnant friend asked me to go shopping with her this week. I knew it was going to be dangerous being in a baby shop with my purse in hand but I managed to get away with buying just one packet of cloth nappies so we can use them as spew rags. Having all bub’s clothes hanging up means we can see what we need and even though we have lot, I think I will need to invest in a few more long sleeve/leg onsies for night times. Would you believe we don’t even have a brush for her hair yet or those little clippers for cutting her nails.
Highlight of the Week: Mackenzee hugging my tummy and telling me she loves her little sister. She’s very excited about having a sister, enjoys looking at bub’s room and seeing what’s new.
What we’re looking forward to: With less than 11 weeks to go, we’re just looking forward to enjoying the rest of the pregnancy (and for me, trying not to think about the labour!!)
Have fun!
