Cruising it in on The Block
Another week on The Block and it’s getting to the pointy end of the season with only a few more rooms to deliver. This week saw the delivery of the living area, and in some cases, a dining area. My biggest question this week is why is everyone going so blah with the white walls?!? Where’s some colour guys? To be honest, it feels like everyone (except Sophie and Dale) has the same style. Check all the rooms out for yourself, in order of ranking:
Dan and Dani’s Living and Dining Room
Dramas for these guys this week with their cabinet maker pulling out of building their built in wall unit. But luckily Freedom Kitchens were on hand and saved the day by building their unit instead. I think it paid off…well it was the only thing I liked in their room. Well, I lie…I didn’t mind the colour of their couch either. One of the judges said she felt the table should have been moved over to the left more and I tend to agree, it did feel like it was in the way of entering the lounge area.

Sophie and Dale’s Living Room
Do these guys do lighting any other way than hanging it on a hook or knob?!? The room felt way to narrow for me and the long lounge just highlighted the fact. I liked their use of clour with the cushions on the lounge but the TV was positioned too high for my liking.

Brad and Lara’s Living and Dining Room
My pick this week was Brad and Lara. Again, the space they have is just so to their advantage. With budget issues, they decided to custom make a dining table and coffee table and it paid off for them as they looked beautiful. I loved the idea of having the Jetmaster fireplace, especially positioned where it is so it heats not just the living and dining space but also the kitchen. Their lounge looked inviting but the wall with the TV on it just looked lifeless. I would have liked to see more cabinets and create something more with that space.

Mike and Andrew’s Living Room
10 points to the boys for mixing it up and swapping the space for the living room this week. I like the idea of walking into the living room instead of a kitchen so I personally believe this decision paid off for them. Heeding last week’s advice from the judges, they went with the less is more theory but to the extreme with very little room dressing. I liked their fireplace and the cabinets but everything else looked a little mismatched to me. The judges said the rug needed to not compete with the art work and I agree.

For more pics of the rooms, check out the official The Block site. Also, an interesting tid-bit for you - viewer’s choice this week was Brad and Lara’s room with an overwhelming 48% vote followed by Dan and Dani (20%), Sophie and Dale (18%) and Mike and Andrew (14%).
This week coming sees the completion of the last room in the house – the kitchen. Well the teams thought that was it but there was a suprise. Each team is being given an additional $2,500 to revist a room and fix it up. Yes folks, it’s a “room saver” effectively making it a two room week. This means there is an additional $5,000 up for grabs for the team that delivers the highest quality room saver. I am looking forward to seeing what the kitchens look like this week. Hopefully we can finally get some wow factor happening.
Have fun!
